Chuck at Comic-Con

It's kind of a slow day in work, and my boss is out of the office, so I just watched the Chuck panel from Comic-Con (which was last weekend).

First, there's the Season 2 trailer and the Schwartz/Fedak skit (omg hilarious), then the live Jeffster! performance, and of course, the panel discussion. Watch it. Watch it all. Love Chuck.

(I also ate Subway for lunch today... power of suggestion.)

My poor baby!

Had to take Chelsea to the vet today - she's been using the litter box way more frequently than usual, and only leaving quarter-sized pee clumps for the last week or so, and the other day we had a little piddly-on-the-sofa incident. (But she's still my very good girl and it's not her fault she's sick.) We had an appointment for her vaccines on Friday, but I pestered them to see her right away because I don't want her to be in pain, and I'd prefer no more piddly incidents. I thought it might be a urinary infection, but it turns out it's an inflamed bladder. She spent the day at the vet, but I'll pick her up when I get home from work.

In other news, work is going well. I really like the new job. It keeps me pretty busy, and I get to go to enough meetings that I'm not stuck in the office all day. The issues are interesting, and I think it's going to be pretty fun. One of the more headache-inducing things we're working on is health care (and that op-ed explains why the headache), most of which goes over my head. I just sit in the task force meetings and nod.

Fun with politics link for the day - be glad you don't live in New Jersey. (And people wonder why I didn't want to work there...)

Idiotic intersections

Given the utterly incomprehensible street planning in the DC metro area, I feel like I need to keep a list for posterity of the bizarre intersections I come across in my daily life. Let's start with the ones in my neighborhood:

S. Glebe Rd. and W. Glebe Rd. - This one rivals Megan's N St. and N St. (which I haven't found yet, but I'm looking). Whose brilliant idea was it to have intersecting streets with the SAME NAME?

Shirlington Rd. and Four Mile Run Dr./Shirlington Rd. - See above. Of course, this one's only half crazy, because Shirlington Rd. only runs in THREE directions out of this intersection, and the other direction is a completely different street.

25th St. and 28th St. - Okay, maybe it's just me, but I thought it was logical when numbering the streets to PUT THEM IN ORDER. Apparently not, as we have 28th St. running completely perpendicular to all the other numbers. This is also the same 28th St. that loops around to intersect with Army Navy Drive in between 23rd and 25th Sts. Yeah...

Made it through the first day!

Guess what, guys? This is my first official post from my new office! Whee!

...they left me here alone...

First day went pretty well, except there's not much for me to do, since the guy I'm replacing still technically works here, but I've got plenty to learn, so lots of reading articles and position papers. The internet in this building suuuuucks, though, so I don't know if I'll be doing my usual stealthy-updates-from-work as much as I used to. (Ha, I say that like I haven't totally slacked off and not posted regularly since God knows when.)

I do have internet (and cable) at home now, so at least I'm not living in the dark ages anymore. Had a bad dream this morning that it was pouring rain and I missed the bus and was going to be late for work, and then I tried to drive but it was dark and I got lost and drove over a bridge that was under construction, but in actual fact it all went smoothly and I made it on time and everything. Yay!

Not dead, just internetless

Well, the move happened, and with very few hassles (yay for professional movers!). My poor kitty was traumatized, but she seems to have recovered after only one puking-in-the-corner incident. (Honey, I've felt like I was gonna throw up all week, so I'm right there with ya.)

My parents stayed for the weekend to help me get settled, and so I'm almost unpacked, except for my bedroom. We went to see fireworks for 4th of July at the Pointy Things (aka the Air Force Memorial), which, if you're not familiar with the area, is up on a hill in Arlington with an excellent view of the Washington Monument (where they set off the fireworks), as well as pretty much the whole city... which meant that we could see pretty much every fireworks display in the DC metro area, lol. I have never seen anything like it - about half an hour before the big fireworks started, we saw all these little ones popping up on the horizon. There must have been a hundred of them all over the place, and they continued on after the big show was over.

Anyway, we've been to DC a bunch of times, so our only sightseeing was the Pentagon 9/11 memorial, and other than that, we just drove around my neighborhood trying to figure out where things are. I have this week off, so I should have time to familiarize myself with the area, although I'm somewhat petrified to attempt to drive outside my immediate neighborhood. (GPS. Schizophrenic episodes. Not pretty.)

As I mentioned, I am currently internetless - the Comcast guy doesn't come until Saturday!! - so I've been using the business center in my building. I'm also without cable in these dark ages, so I'll probably have a whole list of books and movies I've read/watched this week. New job starts on Monday, so we'll see what kind of excitement that brings.

Almost there...

Eeeeeeeee!!! It's almost moving day! My parents came this weekend to help me pack. Box count as of 10am Saturday: 3 boxes and 1 suitcase packed.

Box count as of 10am Sunday: 21 boxes, 3 suitcases, and 2 plastic storage containers packed.

My parents are frighteningly efficient.

I am now trying to decide whether I want Verizon FIOS for my internet (TV isn't available yet). I've never had a problem with Comcast, but I've heard that FIOS is so much better, and it's not really much more expensive than Comcast. Anyone have any experience with it?
